On our first full night in Florence (9/3), we attended a welcome dinner that Lorenzo de Medici (LdM) had planned for us. We met at the school on Via (Street) Faenza and enjoyed an evening walk through the streets of Florence, past the Duomo (right) to our dinner location on the Fiume Arno (Arno River) within view of the famous Ponte Vecchio.A Picture Perfect Dinner on the Arno River
We enjoyed a great spread of typical Italian food, such as fagioli, bruschetta, prosciutto (delicious), salami, pasta, pate, wine, champagne and biscotti dipped in dessert liquor. However, even better than the food was the breathtaking view (left).
It was an enjoyable meal with my roommates and a few of the friends (right) we met earlier (we bonded by suffering through orientation together). After dinner, we took a stroll around the area, stopping for gelato, and enjoyed a street performer serenading a crowd with his acoustic guitar on the bridge - definitely a great welcome to Florence!
